Sometimes it takes a foreign eye to help you realize your own vision. When a Paoli designer hired Morgan LTD to do her center city condo, she knew her primary home’s project would soon follow. The homeowners turned once again to MDL to modernize their original two story foyer and transform it into a sleek and elegant space to match the rest of the house. The existing staircase and railing were resolutely traditional and the idea to remove them wasn’t given a second thought. How much could remain was to be discovered.

Having been through the process of designing, developing and fabricating custom metal furniture for their condo, the home owners and MDL set out once again to create a one of a kind metal design that would take center stage in their home.

New, thicker Oak treads were developed with a two inch overhang at the sides to replace the existing. The cold rolled steel railing structure was then fastened to the underside of the overhand with stainless steel grommets. The railing was finished with a high gloss metallic paint to compliment the stainless steel details.

The finished stairway and railing is like nothing ever created. The traditional installation had been reversed and the railing is suspended from the treads instead of being seated on top. It has a deconstructed look.
